Path to College for First-Generation Students
On May 14, the Catholic Academy of Bridgeport hosted James Carter, the Communications Manager for Collegiate Directions Inc. and author of an extensive study entitled Barriers to Entry, which explores in-depth the many factors which inhibit access to a solid college track for first-generation, low-income students and their families. James is a graduate of Syracuse University from which he holds a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and a Bachelor of Arts in African American Studies. This talk was geared toward parents of middle school-aged children but all were encouraged to attend.
