“I am”
by CAB ’23 alumna Autumn Joseph
I am from Bridgeport, Connecticut
From a house filled with “Please and thank you” where treating everyone with respect is a must
I am from a place of dedication, perseverance, and loyalty
From a place where the neighbors are quiet and peaceful
From the wooden floor boards to the endless amounts of books
From a place where loving memories never cease to be cherished
I am from the month of November
From observing how the leaves change from a bright green to a fire hydrant red, and then to none at all
From watching Marvel movies on repeat sometimes with my family
I am from the mouth-watering smell of home-cooked meals
From hearing the sizzling sounds of chicken being fried on the stove
From eating the spicy peppers in my mother’s food that always gave her food a kick
I am from the Friday nights of eating the sweet, icy taste of chocolate ice cream
I am from seeing friendships being created and tested
I am from observing and living the positive results of where hard work takes you
From seeing close people to me needing my assistance or comfort
From graduating middle school with a huge smile on my face
From seeing that big sized envelope of Notre Dame’s Entrance letter
From hearing my mother’s scream of joy and seeing those tears of proudness in her eyes
From seeing my brother come up with the silliest jokes and laughing with him until tears begin to form in my eyes
I am from a mother who always says “I have no favorites, for both of you are”
From a mother who works day and night to provide for her family
I am from a parent who teaches me life lessons and will always be there for when I am in need
I am from a place where my life is still unraveling before me….
